Sởi là bệnh lây lan nhanh nhất trong số các bệnh truyền nhiễm. Bệnh lây qua không khí khi người mắc bệnh ho hoặc hắt hơi và chỉ có thể cắt đứt sự lây truyền khi miễn dịch cộng đồng đạt ít nhất 95%.
Bệnh sởi lây truyền rất nhanh qua đường hô hấp, 90% người chưa có miễn dịch sẽ mắc bệnh nếu tiếp xúc gần với bệnh nhân sởi. Trung bình 1 người mắc bệnh có thể lây cho 12-18 người khác và chỉ có thể cắt đứt sự lây truyền khi miễn dịch cộng đồng đạt ít nhất 95%.
Từ đầu năm đến nay, cả nước ghi nhận khoảng 40.000 ca nghi sởi, trong đó ít nhất có 5 trường hợp tử vong liên quan đến sởi. Số trường hợp nghi sởi ghi nhận cao nhất tại khu vực miền Nam (57%), miền Trung (19%), miền Bắc (15%), Tây Nguyên (gần 9%).
Bệnh có thể gây ra nhiều biến chứng nguy hiểm như viêm tai giữa, viêm phổi, tiêu chảy, khô loét giác mạc mắt, viêm não, thậm chí có thể dễ dẫn đến tử vong. Bệnh sởi chưa có thuốc điều trị đặc hiệu, tiêm vaccine là biện pháp hữu hiệu để phòng bệnh.
Theo PGS.TS Trần Đắc Phu, nguyên Cục trưởng Cục Y tế Dự phòng (nay là Cục Phòng bệnh- Bộ Y tế), người không có miễn dịch (không được tiêm vaccine hoặc chưa từng mắc sởi) mà tiếp xúc với bệnh nhân sởi thì gần như đều bị lây.
Bệnh lây lan rất nhanh vì thế từ xưa đến nay người ta vẫn nói “đi qua đầu giường của bệnh nhân sởi cũng có thể bị lây”.
Trong lịch sử, thế giới đã chứng kiến nhiều đợt bùng phát dịch sởi. Gần đây nhất là vào năm 2014, dịch bùng phát trên toàn thế giới và cả tại nước ta.
“Dịch sởi bùng phát theo chu kỳ 5 năm và hiện đúng vào chu kỳ này nên nguy cơ bùng phát tại nước ta là rất cao”, TS Phu đánh giá.
Để phòng chống bệnh sởi, Cục Phòng bệnh, Bộ Y tế khuyến cáo:
– Chủ động đưa trẻ từ 9 tháng đến 2 tuổi chưa tiêm hoặc tiêm chưa đủ 2 mũi vaccine phòng bệnh sởi đi tiêm đầy đủ, đúng lịch và các nhóm tuổi khác (6-9 tháng, 1-10 tuổi) tham gia chiến dịch tiêm vaccine phòng, chống bệnh sởi theo hướng dẫn của Bộ Y tế.
– Không cho trẻ đến gần, tiếp xúc với các trẻ nghi mắc bệnh sởi; đeo khẩu trang nơi đông người, thường xuyên rửa tay bằng xà phòng khi chăm sóc trẻ.
– Giữ vệ sinh thân thể, mũi, họng, mắt và răng miệng cho trẻ hàng ngày; đảm bảo dinh dưỡng, giữ ấm cơ thể cho trẻ.
– Nhà trẻ, mẫu giáo, trường học nơi tập trung đông trẻ em cần giữ gìn vệ sinh sạch sẽ, thông thoáng và đủ ánh sáng; thường xuyên khử trùng đồ chơi, dụng cụ học tập và phòng học bằng các chất sát khuẩn thông thường.
– Khi phát hiện có các dấu hiệu nghi ngờ mắc bệnh sởi (sốt, ho, chảy nước mũi, phát ban) cần sớm cách ly và đưa trẻ đến các cơ sở y tế gần nhất để được thăm khám, tư vấn điều trị kịp thời.
